The Flute Controller
Skittles tapped into challenge gaming, the corner of the community where players intentionally make games harder by inventing absurd rules or controllers, and built one of the least practical input devices imaginable: a symphony-quality classical flute custom-modified with gaming inputs. Different notes, breath intensity, and finger placements trigger in-game actions, meaning a player has to genuinely learn to play the instrument just to progress. The flute choice is a deliberate nod to gaming history and its instantly recognizable melodies, while remaining gloriously impractical, a refined concert instrument reimagined as an unpredictable, breath-powered controller.
